Mobile parking launched in Antwerp

Since the first of September 2006, paying your parking fees has been made possible through the use of your mobile phone in the second largest city of Belgium, Antwerp.

APCOA Belgium has introduced an innovative method of mobile parking for which users do not need to subscribe prior to their first use. The pre-registration requirement is a difficult obstacle for many mobile parking providers because it creates a barrier to entry for the common user which inhibits growth, but the solution presented by Mobile-for in cooperation with APCOA removes this obstacle which allows everybody to experience the mobile parking service without an upfront need to register.

CEO of GAPA (the public parking organization in the city of Antwerp), Eric Dubois, said that the solution provided by Mobile-for and APCOA is unique because of its openness - every citizen or city visitor may use mobile parking without pre-registration. Customers of any Belgian mobile operator may start parking immediately on the street. "Such an open solution for everyone is a first in Western Europe and we hope it will become a common standard across Belgium in the very near future", said Dubois.

The advantages of mobile parking are plenty. There is no longer a need to estimate your required parking time in advance. No more worries about carrying enough or an exact change of coins. Mobile parking allows you to pay only for the actual time you parked your car.  In case your active parking time approaches the legally permitted maximum time, the mobile parking service will warn you automatically by SMS to avoid any fines.

The company's theatrical drama-based training initiative to improve skills of it's Parking Attendants in London did not only win the innovation category. It also resulted in the Overall Winners Award presented for "the most outstanding example of excellence in the UK Parking industry".

British Airport Authority (BAA) rewarded APCOA's "excellent standard of customer service at its airport car parks" in three of the seven categories.

Less stress: APCOA Parking UK to introduce telephone payment system for rail passengers.

The rail operator First Great Western and its parking contractor APCOA have agreed to install telephone payment technology at 63 station car parks between London and Penzance as an alternative to the current pay&display arrangements.

August 1st 2006 APCOA's International Expansion

APCOA has once again undergone splendid development in the last few years. Hence, the number of parking spaces managed by APCOA in this year has grown to nearly three-quarters of a million. Despite this already excellent development, APCOA has set itself new goals. New markets outside the 13 aforementioned countries are to be explored during the coming years. In order to reach these objectives, APCOA has engaged the services of  the former long-standing SkiData, Marketing and Sales Vice President, James Toal. Mr Toal will take up the position of Director International Business Development on September 1st 2006.

August 1st 2006 Great Success in "Bella Italia"

The market leader in Italy, APCOA Parking Italia S.p.A., has now managed to break into the difficult Palermo, Sicily market, with a large-scale On-street Parking contract, which was guided to its conclusion by the taciturn manager, Dr. Arturo Benigna. This represents the second Italian APCOA highlight next to the new Milan Trade Fair (Fiera di Milano).
